I have great respect for both Bas Rutten and Frank Shamrock. Both of those guys are top atheletes, great competitors, and fine gentlemen. So their second fight is one of my favorites. Check it out:
Part One
Part Two
The first thing you will notice in the second part is a lot of showboating by Frank. Word was that Bas and Frank HATE each other. Frank beat Bas the first time and this time I think that Frank also wanted to humiliate him. As you can see from part 2, that didn’t really happen. But despite the cut, Frank just doesn’t seem to be taking the fight seriously. I would guess that Frank knew the cut would cause him to lose so he wanted Bas to know that he wasn’t really beaten and could take Bas’ best shot with no problem. That would kind of take the joy out of it for Bas, which is what I think Frank wanted.
It’s rare that you see this much humor in a MMA match, but it’s one of the reasons that it’s a favorite of mine.
If anyone has Bas Rutten’s career video, then please chime in and let me know how it is. My old BJJ teacher used to tell us not to watch BJJ instructionals because they could be feeding us a line of BS. He said to watch fights for our education because then we would see what really works. Bas going through all of fights (even his losses) and explaining what he was trying to do would probably be a great way to explore fight training and strategy. It’s kind of rare that a fighter would do something like that. So if anybody has it, then let me know if it’s worth getting. Christmas is only six months away!

Watch the Bas Rutten career video, they do NOT hate each other, they were good friends at the time. One of my favourite fights, too
Bas is very no-nonsense, you can actually learn a lot from his comments, miss him in Pride (Trigg is crap in the ring AND the mike).
